University of Minnesota names first female president in its history

University of South Carolina Provost Joan Gabel on Tuesday was named the first female president in the 167-year history of the University of Minnesota. The school's governing board voted unanimously to approve a five-year contract for Gabel.
Louisiana: Outbreak of 25 hepatitis A cases; get immunized

Louisiana's Department of Health has declared an outbreak of hepatitis A, hoping to keep numbers low for the highly contagious liver disease. Twenty-five of the 28 cases reported this year are counted in the outbreak, said Dr. Joe Kanter, the assistant state health officer.
